Cary Exhibition

May 27, 2009

carymeathexhibit

At the Edges of the Day: Cultural Exchange between Cary, North Carolina and County Meath, Ireland At the Edges of the Day is an exhibition of photography by four photographers: Patrick Bartlett and Heath Clayton of Cary Photographic Artists in Cary, North Carolina; Andrew Kelly of Duleek Photo Group and Andrew Ellis of Navan Camera Club in County Meath, Ireland.

The exhibition explores the people, places, economy and culture of Sister Cities (Twinning) Cary, North Carolina and County Meath, Ireland as seen through the eyes of these photographers. Both communities have undergone tremendous population and economic growth.

The four photographers illuminate and illustrate this change in the people, land and culture. The term At The Edges of the Day is drawn from what photographers commonly call the best “lighting” to capture a subject.

Meath’s twinning with Cary, North Carolina originated in 2001. Initiated by a Meath-born business man, living and working in Cary, it gave rise to a dialogue between the two regions regarding local resources, initiatives that could bring economic growth and developing local business. Local authority representatives from both Meath and Cary have engaged in this exchange.

The Cultural Exchange (2008/09), involving local photographers, is the first civilian exchange between the two communities. The exhibition, to be shown in both Cary and Meath, offers the wider communities the opportunity to witness and contribute to this on-going dialogue.
The exhibition was shown at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center in Cary, North Carolina from February 26—March 25, 2009. The exhibition will be shown at the Solstice Arts Centre, Navan, Co. Meath from July 14—July 31, 2009.

CIWEM (The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) runs the Environmental Photographer of the Year, which is one of the fastest growing photographic competitions in the world. In 2008 we received over 1,400 entries from over 40 countries –we are hoping to increase this in the 2009 competition. Digital Comp

April 1, 2009

Hi to all,
On Monday next Navan Camera Club is running an experiment with a digital competition.
Each member is encouraged to enter one digital image with a resolution of 1000 pixels on the long side at 72dpi. As digital projectors do not give any better projection above 72dpi that is why this resolution was chosen.
Some members have already entered and we have about 10 entries so far but in order to give a chance to club members who may be unaware of the competition the closing date has been extended
to midnight on Thursday 2nd April.Entries should be sent to …
davidmclean152@gmail.com
with your own name as the file name.
The standard print based club competition also takes place on the night of 6th April.
Regards
David McLean

St Patrick’s Day Photos

March 26, 2009

Hi, I am writing to you on behalf of the Navan Shamrock Festival. We are running a competition for photogrpahs taken during this year’s festival of events. There is a cash prize of €200. Please submit your entries to info@navanshamrockfestival.com or drop a hard copy into Navan Shamrock Festival c/o Navan Travellers Workshops Ltd CYWS Hall Fairgreen Navan Co. Meath

I noticed that there were many photographers out in force on the day and we hope that you will share your pictures with the public. There was very little coverage in the local press, and it will be great for people to be reminded of the wonderful day we had for St Patrick’s Day.

If you have a place where you host photographs, which we can link onto our website, that will be great; or we are open to suggestions on how best to share photographs in a safe way.

The Rose of Meath is looking to find any photographes taken during the Parade. (Please send them to me and I will pass them on)
Also some of the floats would like their photographs for their own publicity, and maybe websites. If you would like to contact me about this, you can contact me on the Navan Shamrock Festival Mobile Phone 087 9671173 (Anne)

Kind regards Anne
